When I was growing up in the church, I was told over and over to be a good example, to be the “light to the world” because we represent Jesus. I was taught that people would absolutely reject God if we the Church showed God in a bad light.

Now, I see my fellow Christians whining and saying that people can’t reject God just because the Church showed hypocrisy and abuse and hatefulness and and and — the list goes on and on. We really suck at being Christlike.

We can’t have it both ways. If we don’t represent Jesus well, we need to stop whining at those who reject God because we did a shitty job of loving people. It. Is. Our. Fault.
