As a child in the church, I was taught about agape love. This was defined as “unconditional love” like the love God has for us.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
This kind of love was described as the ideal, and that we should love others in this way, unconditionally.
Today, I see so many conditions on the love Christians offer. If you want the love of Christ, you can’t be gay or trans or bi or any other LGBTQ+ letter. My Christian brothers and sisters, we are called to be a city on a hill, not gatekeepers trying to keep the children from coming to Jesus.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them. Matthew 19:14
We are to love as Christ loved us, with an agape love. There is no room for any conditions in this kind of love. In fact, we are commanded to love without conditions:
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. John 13:34
And to all my LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters and siblings of all kinds, I love you. Unconditionally.
