My God, You know my foolishness,
You know my every sin,
You see each time I slip and fall,
You cheer each time I win.

The tides have overwhelmed my soul
And knocked me off my feet.
My tears have left me drained and dry:
Oh God, won’t You save me?

I am a stranger to my kin,
And they won’t speak my name.
I have become an alien;
They spurn me for my shame.

I have become a drunkards’ song,
A cautionary tale.
The gentry sit on high and judge,
Foreseeing I will fail.

The tides have overwhelmed my soul
And knocked me off my feet.
My tears have left me drained and dry:
Oh God, won’t You save me?

My God, You know my foolishness,
You know my every sin,
You see each time I slip and fall,
You cheer each time I win.

Esther learned to read when she was four years old, and began writing shortly thereafter. She is a queer Christian poet, crafting with words to create art and music.
