I think gender separate sports are absurd, actually. The categories should be based on something other than sex.

If I had a cis daughter who was beat in sports by a trans girl, I would not be upset. What a silly thing to be upset over. When I was in high school, I sucked at sports and it didn’t upset me. All the cis girls beat me in sports and I’m also cis. I didn’t really try.

But I was also a “tomboy” who liked to play with the boys when it wasn’t sports, and I prided myself on keeping up with them. If I had cared about sports, and applied myself, I could probably have played sports with boys and held my own.
