I miss silence. When I was twelve, I had a really bad earache that turned out to be an ear infection, that burst my eardrum. Ever since then, I’ve been hard of hearing and I have tinnitus. I think mine is quieter than yours, but a lot of what you described here resonated with me.

The buzzing hum goes up and down randomly, but it’s always there, like a mosquito buzzing just out of sight. Sometimes I’ll go for days without noticing it when it fades, but it always comes back, making it even harder for me to make out what people around me are saying.

I keep music on at work all the time to drown it out, but then when someone walks in and tries to talk to me, I can’t understand most of what they’re saying unless I turn the music off.

It’s so annoying.
