I got married in British Columbia, Canada. If I’d wanted to keep my last name, I would’ve had to change it back. The marriage license included the name change for the bride. That helped a bit with the costs involved in changing my name, though I still had to update my records with my bank, get a new drivers license and social insurance card, etc. But I was shocked that every BC bride has to change her name whether she wants to or not, and must pay to change it back if she wants to keep her maiden name.
