I agree that multitasking is stupid, and that this focus on it is detrimental to everyone. However, I think that being “jack of all trades” doesn’t equal being a multitasker.

I am a writer, a musician, an administrative assistant, an aunt. I don’t see that any of these hats diminishes another.

I’ve actually seen some writing advice that takes this idea of mastering one thing to the exclusion of all else even further: we shouldn’t write about more than one thing or in more than one genre. F*** that noise. I write fantasy, sci fi, realistic fiction, personal essays, poetry, and music.

Jack of all trades, master of none, better than a master of one.
