Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”? -1 Corinthians 1:27 The Message
I’ve seen a few people saying recently that the next world-changing move of God is going to be birthed within the LGBTQ community. This is not to say that God is going to bring queer people back to the church. No, the queer community is going to lead the church.
Holiness is and always has been queer, no matter how you define the word ‘queer.’
And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee. -Deuteronomy 26:18 KJV
Holiness is not equal to self-righteousness, for that is “like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).
“In primitive Semitic usage ‘holiness’ seems to have expressed nothing more than that ceremonial separation of an object from common use.” BibleStudyTools.com
Each great move of God is signified by a setting apart, a difference, a peculiarity, a ‘queerness.’ The Hebrew people in the Old Testament followed many guidelines to set them apart from the people around them, including how they cut their hair. The early Church lived apart from the people around them, sharing everything communally. The next sea change has already begun.
Jesus turned the status quo on its head: Love your enemies; The first shall be last; Preach the Gospel to all, Jews and Gentiles; There is no male and female.
The church today has become stagnant, entrenched in the religiosity we were meant to upend. We are reminiscent of the religious establishment of Jesus’ time. We are ripe for a flood of the Spirit. It’s time for the rainbow.
The LGBTQ community is already on the front lines, building an ark. If the church won’t follow, we’ll be washed away.
